Menstruation is Natural, Period Poverty Shouldn’t Be!

In India, millions of women and young girls continue to suffer in silence due to the lack of awareness, access, and affordability of menstrual hygiene products. This issue is not just about health—it affects a girl’s education, dignity, and future.

Imagine having to choose between buying food for the day or purchasing a sanitary pad. For many women in rural areas and urban slums, this is a harsh reality. At Voice of Slum, we refuse to accept this as normal.

Project Laado is our dedicated initiative to:

  • Provide menstrual hygiene products to underprivileged women and girls.
  • Educate and raise awareness on period health and hygiene.
  • Break the deep-rooted stigma and taboos surrounding menstruation.
  • Ensure that no girl has to miss school or work due to her period.

The Harsh Reality

Despite being a basic necessity, menstrual hygiene remains a privilege for many. The statistics paint a grim picture:

  • Only 36% of the 336 million menstruating women in India have access to sanitary napkins.
  • 23 million girls drop out of school every year due to lack of menstrual hygiene.
  • The Covid-19 pandemic further reduced access to sanitary products, making the situation worse.
  • 85% of women in rural areas still rely on unsafe alternatives like rags, ash, or hay, leading to serious infections and health risks.

Our Mission

At Voice of Slum, we believe that no girl should have to choose between dignity and survival. Through Project Laado, we are working tirelessly to:

  • Educate communities on period health, hygiene, and awareness.
  • Conduct workshops to break the stigma surrounding menstruation.
  • Empower women by ensuring they have the resources they deserve.
We aim to create a future where menstruation is no longer a barrier to education, confidence, and success.

Our Impact So Far

We have been working tirelessly to ensure that no girl suffers due to lack of menstrual hygiene. With your support, we have:

  • Distributed thousands of sanitary napkins across Delhi NCR and Noida.
  • Educated hundreds of girls about menstrual health and hygiene.
  • Conducted multiple awareness workshops to break taboos surrounding periods.
  • Empowered women to prioritize their health and well-being.

But millions still need our help!
