“We rescued a girl who was forced to marry a 40-year-old man at the age of 13. At home, she faced constant abuse from her husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law. At such a young and vulnerable age, this girl faced so much pain and suffering. And at 15, she got pregnant. When Chandni and I heard about this story we got goosebumps! Having a child is not only physically and mentally intensive but also a huge responsibility. And she herself is just a child. She should be in school and living a carefree childhood. That’s when we knew that we wanted to give children like her a safe home.” – Dev Pratap Singh, Founder, Voice Of Slum
Dev and Chandni have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of underprivileged children in the slums of Noida for several years. Their relentless efforts have had a tremendous impact, giving these children the chance to break free from poverty and create a better future for themselves. Along with feeding over 22 lakh meals, they have also educated over 825+ children. Their current goal is to build a secure and safe home for children who have experienced poverty, hunger, abuse and other atrocities, providing them with a stable environment to thrive in.
Poverty Limits The Education Of Countless Children, With Many Never Even Starting School
Imagine your parents working relentlessly every day, but still unable to pay for your education. Sadly, this is the reality for many families employed in low-wage jobs. The cost of education is constantly rising, making it increasingly challenging for financially disadvantaged families to keep up with expenses. Moreover, the costs associated with schooling, including fees, uniforms, and transportation, are beyond the financial means of these families.
“Many hard-working people who work as domestic help, sweepers, roadside vendors and daily wagers find it difficult to afford their children’s education due to poverty. The amount they earn is barely enough to keep the family afloat, let alone give their child a good education. Many of these kids are either forced to drop out or never even have the opportunity to go to school in the first place. We want to try and give these kids the education they deserve at our new shelter.”
Voice of Slum’s new shelter will start with being a home for 100 children in need. Here the children will be given healthy meals, shelter and a chance of a better future. Unlike their current shelter, which has poor water facilities and limited access, this new home will be conveniently located for donors to visit and aims to be fully equipped with essential amenities for the children.
However, Dev & Chandni Can’t Do it Without Your Support
“We know that a new shelter will benefit these kids immensely and help them break away from the cycle of poverty. But we can’t do it without your support. The rent, water and electricity bills, and lack of funding are all challenges we have to overcome on a regular basis. With you by our side, we can not only give these children the basic necessities they need but also the safety and emotional support that will help them grow and learn.”
Dev and Chandni tirelessly work towards improving the lives of underprivileged children. The children they work with face numerous challenges on a daily basis, and providing them with a safe haven like this can drastically improve their quality of life. They need your help to get construction materials to build the shelter home, groceries to feed the children healthy meals and stationery kits.
By supporting their cause, you can play an active role in helping hundreds of poor children dream of a brighter future.
About the NGO: Chandni and Dev Pratap founded Voice of Slum in 2016, driven by their own experiences growing up in a slum. They understand the struggles and hardships that come with such living conditions, and they don’t want other children to miss out on the childhood they deserve. Their empathy and motivation to make a difference in the lives of others inspired them to create Voice Voice of Slum. The NGO is dedicated to providing slum children with education and employment opportunities so they can reach their full potential. Their mission is to empower these children and give them the opportunities they deserve. Starting in a small hut with just a few children, the organization has grown to empower hundreds of children in the slums of Noida.
