With the lockdown exacerbating their struggles, those reliant on daily wages for sustenance now find it difficult to secure their basic necessities. Lack of food, shelter, and essential resources has left millions unemployed and families homeless. In response to this crisis, Voice of Slum, led by co-founder Dev, a slum-raised individual dedicated to community upliftment, has stepped up to provide crucial assistance.
During these trying times, Voice of Slum not only supports jobless labor but also emphasizes the importance of social distancing and hygiene practices to curb the spread of the virus. Dev’s deep understanding of the plight faced by these communities, coupled with his personal journey from the slums, fuels his commitment to driving positive change.
Since the inception of the lockdown, Voice of Slum has been actively distributing grocery kits to residents of slums and daily wage earners. The organization has reached out to eight lakh people during this critical period, offering sustained support to those who remain unemployed. All activities are conducted with the necessary police support and legal permissions.
Moreover, Voice of Slum extends its assistance to migrant laborers returning to their hometowns, providing essential kits with glucose and water to protect them from the heat and keep them hydrated during their arduous journeys.
